Gary is a family physician with St. Michael’s Hospital and Inner City Health Associates in downtown Toronto.  He is an alumnus of Camp Miriam near Vancouver, which feels very similar to Shomria.  He has 3 children at Mosh, one in hadracha, the other two still campers.  He also lives with 3 cats and 2 hives of bees.  He spends much of his professional time in the city addressing the health consequences of poverty, homelessness and other social risks to health, so his weeks at Shomria offer a wonderfully different practice environment.

Dr. Leah Smith (she/her) is a Family Physician working in central Ottawa. She is also a Lecturer with the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Ottawa. She runs a family practice serving a diverse population with many interests including LGBTQ care.  She also enjoys teaching Resident doctors training to become Family Doctors.  She attended mosh for 11 years in her youth and is incredibly excited to return in this new role. She will be joined by her husband and two toddlers this summer.

Dr Erin Sandilands is an emergency physician, practicing in Brantford ON since 2015.  Thanks to some terrific mentors, she is involved in teaching point-of-care ultrasound skills to physicians from across Canada and beyond.  Erin is a parent of several adult and teenage children, the youngest of whom has been attending Mosh since 2016.  She has served on Hashomer Hatzair's board of directors for the past few years, and is looking forward to this opportunity to witness and support youth in person this summer.

Samara is a social worker in Toronto who has over 10 years of experience in community social work and in private practice. She spent 17 summers at Camp Massad in Manitoba, as a camper, staff member and, ultimately, director, and grew up immersed in the world of Jewish community. In Toronto, she continues to be involved in refugee activism, local politics and community-building. Samara is married to another former camp director and they are parents to two boys under the age of 3. There is nothing Samara loves more than camp, community and sing-alongs. She is our Director of Community Care and will be our on-site social worker in our Two Weeks A Session.

Stephen Skrzydlo
Stephen started at Shomria at age 8, grew up in the movement, became a counselor, and eventually served in virtually every leadership position available, including Rosh Tech (in charge of operations), Rosh Tarbut (head of programming), and Rosh Mosh (head of staff).  While away from the movement in Waterloo Stephen got married and had two children.  Recently Stephen joined the Board of Directors with a desire to improve the sustainability of the movement through policy and documentation, as well as ensure that it remains primarily youth led.  Professionally, Stephen leads a team of Cloud Economists as a Director at a large Canadian ed-tech company.  (Yedid: Lahav 1994)
