A little bit about the Ken:
The Ken gives Hashomer Hatzair and Camp Shomria an opportunity to bring our creative 'youth-leading-youth' programs and activities to the city of Toronto. Our hadracha (staff of counselors) takes the time to plan and run a year-round curriculum of exciting educational activities for our chanichim (campers) involving themes such as (but not limited to): communal responsibility and sharing, leadership, Jewish values, Israeli culture, critical thinking, moral and ethical analysis, tikkun adam (bettering the individual), and tikkun olam (bettering the world). These themes are intertwined and explored with intentional group building methods in our safe, open and welcoming community environment in order to develop and grow individually while creating friendships that last a lifetime. We see the city as one of our opportunities to actualize our ideals about social action and responsibility through projects and initiatives taken on by both young kvutzot (age-groups) and bogrim (older counselors) alike.
