For more than 20 years, I have been involved in Hashomer Hatzair Canada. But the highpoint of my involvement was when my own two children became chanichim, madrichim, bogrim and now continue as adults to be involved in the progress of the movement.  The principles of the movement came to life as I watched my children incorporate those positive values into their own lives. I continue to appreciate the impact that Hashomer Hatzair has had on my kids.
Youth leading Youth, a core value of Hashomer Hatzair, serves as a principle that helps shape the educational program. Through informal education and the leadership of those who came before them, they have developed into leaders who can continue to provide a supportive network for younger madrichim and chanichim who, in turn, will become the leaders of the next generation.

I like to think that I am who I am today due, at least in part, to my time in Hashomer Hatzair.  I joined the movement with my sisters in the 1970’s mostly because our parents wanted us to have some connection to other Jews.  My mom and aunt had been in the movement in their youth and so it was familiar to our family.
Hashomer Hatzair and Camp Shomria in my day were awesome, much like they are today!  My Kvutza was a mix of all types of personalities and everyone was accepted and loved for who we were.  I was free to be myself, and was able to fit in, something that can be difficult for young people to do in school, both back then and today... I am thrilled and proud that my 2 sons are now a part of HH... I am excited to be involved in HH again, as a parent, member of the Parent’s Committee and Board member.  Since my kids have been part of HH, for the past 3 years, I have happily reconnected with friends and Kvutza mates from the past, and made some wonderful new friends as well.
